Todays workout is mostly focused on the chest, or had been in the past until Lockouts got moved to today for some reason. Legs Up bench was up first for five sets of five at 240, nothing too terribly hard until the very last rep were I started to lose my balance and had to flail my legs out to keep steady. You can really feel this in the pecs, I’m starting to look forward to this every week.
Incline bench is added to the routine this week, and stays around for a couple weeks. I haven’t done incline press of any kind in a very long time so this proved to be a fun test of stabilizers. After the first set I had the path down again and it was pretty smooth sailing for the three sets of five at 180. The first couple reps I had to fight to keep the path right instead of just pushing it straight out from my chest and losing it in front of me.
Lockouts got moved to today for some reason, I’m semi-confused about because I always thought of Sundays as the “Chest Day” but now there is an obvious tricep workout in it. Anyway, three sets of five at 280 was still way too light and it doesn’t seem like the Lockouts get much harder as the routine progresses.
To finished off the day we had biceps and abs of which I did four sets of each which definitely felt like enough. My biceps do seem to be getting stronger which I suppose is a good thing.
Good job in today’s workout, Stinn…
I think the difficulty of lockouts are relative. Since you’ve been doing a lot of board pressing and tricep work they seem easy to you, whereas someone like myself would find sets of 5 at 280 difficult.
One the flipside, I find incline pressing easy because I’ve been focusing on shoulder strength and raw strength all along… my 1st time doing incline in a year I did 6×6x175.
Looks like you need to keep with the incline pressing and I need to start working board and lockouts.
Great job on the squatting too, by the way. I couldn’t view the clip unfortunately but 2×495 is some serious squatting for someone who broke into the 400s just a matter of months ago…
thanks john. I’m not too worried about incline press, I’m only doing it because my routine says to do it. I think lockouts should be done at minimum 100% of your 1RM, and go up from there. I can do sets of lockouts at 405.
THe clip is in divx 5.1x…not sure just get the newest divx and it should work. It’s not very good quality tho and the second rep isn’t to legal depth, probably just above parallel.
Inclines are only worthwhile for raw benchers and even then only if you touch high on your chest, since you plan on benching shirted they should never be more than an accessory exercise for you.
What’s your ROM on the lockouts and what type of grip do you use? I’m thinking of including them in my next cycle.
Right around 4-5 inches for lockouts, I generally use pinkies on rings(index on rings in comp grip for me).
